Last March 2020, the Department Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Biodiversity Management Bureau and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) were able to come up with an app that targets to help forest rangers and law enforcement partners in the fight in opposition to wildlife trafficking.

WildALERT is an application wherein it is made up of a mobile interface. It includes features such as species library and report management to easily identify the wildlife species.

John Calanday, the developer of WildALERT, said that the app intends to impart indispensable and urgent information for the DENR, especially for people who are on the lookout for wildlife criminals.

He also added that the application has 200mb which can be utilized offline for spotting and people can yield a report to any within reach police officers for help to capture.

Furthermore, WildALERT is also very helpful and useful for identifying unknown species by specifying the descriptive categories. You could also visit wildalert.ph to see the species library which is publicly available online.

Selected DENR officials and law enforcement officers were doing pilot testing of WildALERT and it was said to be available nationwide among DENR officials and forest rangers by April 2020.

Calanday added that they were hoping to make it feasible to the public by 2021 in order for everyone can provide wildlife protection in the country.

Through the use of WildALERT, wildlife law enforcers can report trafficking, poaching, and illegal trade of wildlife species.
