Republic Act. No 8485 of the Philippines is the law to protect and promote the welfare of all animals in the Philippines by supervising and regulating the establishment and operations of all facilities utilized for breeding, maintaining, keeping, treating or training of all animals either as objects of trade or as household pets.

Animal welfare is one of the main objectives of the Animalia’s Wonderland project. It shows how the animals are coping with the conditions in which they live. An animal is in a good state of welfare if it is well-nourished, safe, able to express innate behavior, and if it does not suffer from unpleasant states such as discomfort, fear, and anxiety (as demonstrated by scientific evidence). Effective animal care needs veterinary treatment and disease prevention, proper shelter, management, nutrition. Animal welfare applies to the animal's state; other words such as animal care, animal husbandry, and humane treatment cover the treatment that an animal receives. Protecting the health of an animal requires caring for its physical and mental requirements.

Ensuring animal welfare is a human obligation that requires consideration of all aspects of animal welfare, including appropriate shelter, management, nutrition, prevention and treatment of diseases, compassionate care, humane handling, and humane euthanasia when necessary.
